Man Sees Bright Sphere With Red and Green Flashing Lights

Map Showing Location of Sighting.

Date of Sighting: November 22, 2008
Time of Sighting: 9 PM EST
Date Sighting Reported: November 23, 2008
Duration of Sighting: Three Hours
Location of Sighting: Tecumseh, Michigan (See Map Above.)
Latitude: 42.0 Degrees North
Longitude: 83.95 Degrees West
Number of Witnesses: One
Weather: Skies Were Clear. Visibility Was 10 Miles. Winds Were Calm.

Description: I stepped onto my front porch around 9 PM for a smoke. Facing southeast I saw a bright sphere with green and red flashing lights to the left of and larger than Jupiter and Venus. It appeared to hang in the air mostly, but occasionally moved up and down or to and fro in small fluid movements. I stepped outside several times to observe it over the next few hours until midnight. Its position gradually shifted higher in the sky and westward toward the planets. It was still hanging there with occasional movements up and down, left and right.

Second Report by Witness: I should have said this object was to the left of Orion.  I did see some bright objects to Orion's right that someone has told me are planets ( I know nothing of astronomy), but this object appeared bigger and brighter than those, twice the size of the brightest star/planet anywhere else in the sky that evening.  A full moon is much larger than this object. However,  I looked at it through binoculars and it appeared pretty much the same as it had with the naked eye, just a bit closer.  What caught my attention were the aircraft-like flashing green and red lights and its odd movements.  It did, however, seem to move on a slow trajectory northwestward throughout the evening.

Comments: A check of astronomical charts showed that no bright planets were visible. I doubt if the sphere was a helicopter because no sound was heard and the sphere was in the sky for at least 3 hours. (Red and green flashing lights are on helicopters and air planes.) I strongly suspect that the witness saw something celestial (groups of stars, intersteller gas, etc), but I can't say anything specific about what it would be.
